Object Descriptions

This section provides a short description of all the major objects in the book. This can be printed out as a study guide for students, used as a "key" for leading a class discussion, or you can jump to the quiz/homework section to find worksheets that incorporate these descriptions into a variety of question formats.


Country/Prairie - This setting is where the novel begins. Jim moves to this setting, where his grandparents live. He meets Antonia and her family who are their nearest neighbors. Jim and Antonia share many adventures discovering and exploring this setting.

Snake - This creature Jim kills is old and lazy. Jim is lucky that he was armed at the moment Antonia spots this creature behind Jim. Jim's killing of this creature wins Antonia's approval and respect.
