• This book is written from the third-person perspective and in the past tense. It alternates between Jo Kaufman's and Bethie Kaufman's points of view.

• In 2015, Jo was coming out of the movies with her wife Shelley when she got a call from her doctor telling her that her breast cancer, which she had first been diagnosed with nine years earlier, was back.
