Character Descriptions

This section provides a short description of all the major characters in the book. Characters

Principal Armstrong - This character is fat and "delicate" and works at Eugene's school in a position of some authority.

Hugh Barton - This individual is Helen's husband, he is an eloquent salesman ten years older than she.

Miss Brown - This character is a tenant of Dixieland from the Midwest who sleeps with Eugene. Eugene does not have any money, so she accepts his medals from Leonard's school as payment.

Dr. J. H. Coker - This character comes to Dixieland, too late, to deal with Ben's pneumonia. He is always smoking...
