Creative Writing

Choose a favorite scene from the novel and rewrite it set in another time and/or place, or written in a different literary style.

Guess Who Game

Write the names of characters onto a small square card and give one to each student (try not to duplicate the character names if possible). Have the students attach the card to their foreheads or backs but don't let them see the card! Have students go around the room asking yes or no questions to each other about their characters. Whoever is able to guess their character first is the winner!

Collage

Create a collage of images which are relevant to the story "Light a Penny Candle". For example, Catholicism plays a large part in the story so an image of a rosary could be included in the collage.
