Objective

Objective: Chapter 1 One of the things the author really drives home in the first chapter is how it can be lonely living in a small town. It says that the empty town and the empty roads made Sonny feel lonely. The first objective is to explore why Sonny feels so lonely in Thalia.

1. Class Discussion- Have the students name the pros and cons of living in a small town. Do you feel that Sonny is just focusing on the cons?

2. Group Activity- Divide the students into small groups and have each group decide what makes people lonely or not lonely. Have them discuss amongst themselves if they believe based on their list if Sonny is lonely because of Thalia ( a small town) or if it is just his own character issue.

3. Writing Assignment- What do you think that Thalia is missing for Sonny? Please explain and expand...
