BINGO

Brainstorm 25 to 30 words that deal with the book and write them on the board (these may be character names, locations, symbols, etc). Create a BINGO card with 9 squares with the middle square being the free space. Have students write eight of the words from the board into each of the squares on their sheet. Give them a handful of markers. Randomly call off words from the board. When a student has filled in a vertical, horizontal, or diagonal row, he/she should call out "BINGO!"

Literary agent

Pretend you are a literary agent representing Denis Johnson, the author of Jesus' Son. Write to the editor of a book publishing company explaining why you think they should publish Denis Johnson's book.

Fortune cookie

Write a fortune cookie message for three characters from Jesus' Son. Explain which three characters you choose and why their fortune cookie message is appropriate...
