Hands

Louise takes an interest in people's hands. Have the students study some pictures of hands, or even the hands of other students in the class and write about what they think they have learned about that person just from their hands.

Preparing for the Storm

Have the students watch a documentary or news footage about people who have survived a major storm or hurricane. You could even have a guest who has been through a storm come to speak to the class.

Dealing with the Cats

Have the students create a new plan that would save Auntie Braxton's cats from starvation.

Puppet Show

Split the class into groups and assign each group one portion of this story. Have each group create a puppet show of their section to present to the class. Have them later write about why their assigned portion was so important to the plot...
