Character Descriptions

This section provides a short description of all the major characters in the book. This can be printed out as a study guide for students, used as a "key" for leading a class discussion, or you can jump to the quiz/homework section to find worksheets that incorporate these descriptions into a variety of question formats.

Characters

Bilbo Baggins - This character is a short, peaceful hobbit, who considers himself a typical hobbit until a mighty and the dwarves appear at his door. Although this character initially hesitates, he joins the adventure to find the stolen treasure.

Balin - This old-looking character wears a scarlet hood and is one of the band of thirteen dwarves led by a mighty dwarf.

Bard - This grim-faced and courageous human is a superb archer and descended from a king.

Beorn - This peaceful shape-shifter or skin-changer can transform from human to bear.
