1. Describe the appearance of the assassin in the first chapter of the book.
The assassin is dressed in the uniform of a Royal Corps of Signals dispatch rider. He rides a motorcycle painted olive green that is identical to the standard British Army model. Nothing about him suggests that he is not what he appears to be except a fully loaded Luger fastened to the top of the petrol tank.
2. What is a "crash dive"?
"Crash dive" is a term the Secret Service borrows from the Submarine Service. It means bad news, the worst in fact.
3. How does Mary Ann Russell drive?
Although she drives expertly, her handling of her battered Peugeot is a bit dangerous. We see this demonstrated when she drives against the flow of traffic at Rond Point and all of the cars divide to avoid a collision.
