Character Descriptions

This section provides a short description of all the major characters in the book. This can be printed out as a study guide for students, used as a "key" for leading a class discussion, or you can jump to the quiz/homework section to find worksheets that incorporate these descriptions into a variety of question formats.

Characters

Jonathan - This character is a thirteen-year-old living on a farm in rural New Jersey.

The Corporal - This character organizes a band of soldiers to fight against some advancing British troops.

The Tavern Keeper - This character lends a young person a musket to use in battle.

The Young Hessian Soldier - This character is the kindest of the three soldiers who capture a young soldier.

The Tall Hessian Soldier - This menacing character with a large facial scar is one of the three soldiers who capture a young soldier.
