Objective: Author. Joe Orton is an English playwright. In a short but prolific career, lasting from 1964 until his death in 1967, he shocks, outrages and amuses audiences with his scandalous black comedies. Ortonesque becomes a recognized term for "outrageously macabre". Today's class begins the introduction of Entertaining Mr. Sloane by examining the playwright, his life, career, and other works.

During Orton's short but prolific career, lasting from 1964 until his death, he shocks, outrages and amuses audiences with his scandalous black comedies.
