Objective

The objective of this lesson is for students to analyze Camino's relationship with Papi, her father, before the plane crash that takes his life. Camino only sees Papi for a few months every year at her home in the Dominican Republic. After Camino's mother died when Camino, now 16, was only a child, Camino went to live with her mother's sister, Tia Solana. Camino loves her father, who financially supports Tia and Camino and pays for the private school tuition for Camino. Camino has dreams of moving to the United States on a Visa her father tells her he can get for her; he lives in New York for much of the year because, he tells Camino, he needs to run his business there.
