Objective

In Chapter 1 Anita explains that she doesn't like Bert and he doesn't like her but their relationship works because of 'Free enterprise'(page 7). The objective of this lesson is to look at free enterprise.

1) Discussion: What is "free enterprise" in this context? What does this statement imply about Anita and Bert's relationship?

2) Classwork: Have the students explain how free enterprise influences day to day life in America. In what ways are free enterprise seen around you?

3) Homework: Have the students do research on the history of free enterprise and do a short paper on some aspect of it's past in American history.

4) Debate: Have the students debate what life would be like if there were no free enterprise. Explain.
