3 March The Russo-Turkish Wars conclude with an Ottoman surrender to the Russians. The Treaty of San Stefano grants independence to Romania, Montenegro, and Serbia, as well as greater autonomy for Bosnia, Herzegovina, and Bulgaria. Russia also gains territorial concessions.
