I believe that the main character of the play "The Glass Menagerie" is Tom Wingfield. Tom is the narrator and the action of the play is framed by Tom's memory. He shows the hardships of his life and reveals his emotions.

Throughout the play, Williams shows the readers of Tom's hardships during his life. However, he feels trapped at home because Laura and Amanda depend on his wages. He feels he can't have his own life. He believes that Laura and Amanda cannot survive in the outside world without a man to help them out. Throughout the play Tom gets very annoyed by Amanda.
