Plot and subplot
The plot of the story is set in 3 phases. Having established the opening revelation that "Gregor Samsa, awoke one morning from uneasy dreams" to find he has been transformed into a gigantic insect we are presented with the initial development of Gregor. The love and dedication he feels for his family is depicted but despite this we learn that he is not fully appreciated or accepted in return and is in a job he despises. When the metamorphosis has happened, he seems more concerned with how he shall support his family with no job, rather than the physical state he is in. When he finally plucks up the courage to reveal himself to the family he assumes they will be patient and understanding, but he is met with disgust and mortification and this.....
