This Mournable Body is a novel by Tsitsi Dangarembga. The protagonist, Tambudzai "Tambu" Sigauke, previously appeared in the novel Nervous Conditions. Now, Tambudzai Sigauke is middle-aged, unemployed, and struggling to find a job. The novel follows Tambu as she finds and loses jobs, welcomes the return of her cousin Nyasha, suffers a nervous breakdown, and tries to recover from the trauma of Zimbabwe’s war for independence. The novel explores themes of violence, wealth inequality, security, and responsibility.
