Rick Riordan bases his 2010 fantasy novel The Red Pyramid (Book 1 of the Kane Chronicles) on Egyptian mythology. The novel follows the brother and sister duo of Carter and Sadie Kane who must deal with the disappearance of their father while battling mythical beings. They travel across the U.S. and Europe attempting to fulfill their destinies of saving the world. Carter and Sadie visit the Land of the Dead to see their father, Julius, and make preparations to eventually battle Apophis.
