The Novice: Summoner Overview
The Novice: Summoner is the first installment of the Summoner trilogy by Taran Matharu. The main character of The Novice is Fletcher Wulf, a 15-year-old boy who finds himself in a fight against a bully named Didric. The fight results in Fletcher being forced to flee the town. He discovers he is a mage (magician). His power had gone unnoticed until that moment. He arrives at Vocans Academy, the training ground for mages who join the fight against horrible beasts called orcs. Fletcher wins his place in the military, but he is arrested for his fight against Didric. The main themes of the novel are prejudice, politics, and coming of age.
