The Chain Overview
Adrian McKinty's The Chain is the story of twins Ginger and Olly who come up with a genius money-making scheme. Rachel Klein gets a phone call announcing that her daughter, Kylie, has been kidnapped. Rachel is told to pay a $25,000 ransom and kidnap another child who will then take Kylie's place in The Chain. Since The Chain has been active for years because parents had complied out of fear for losing their child, Ginger had not counted on Rachel's determination to break The Chain. Rachel brings Ginger and Olly down in a final, bloody showdown. The novel's main themes are good versus evil, a parent's devotion to a child, and manipulation.
