Casey McQuiston's I Kissed Shara Wheeler is a contemporary YA novel. When Chloe Green moves from California to Alabama, she enrolls in Willowgrove Christian Academy because it is the most prestigious school in the area and she is an ambitious young woman with a dream of attending NYU. Her only rival for valedictorian is Shara Wheeler, the seemingly perfect daughter of the homophobic principal. The two girls spend most of high school locked in an academic battle with one another. However, when Shara randomly kisses Chloe in an elevator and then stages her own disappearance at prom, Chloe is swept into a scavenger hunt that leads her deeper into Shara's life than she ever thought possible. The novel explores judgement, expectation, homophobia, progress, and growing up.
