Hunting by Stars Overview

Cherie Dimaline's dystopian young adult novel Hunting by Stars is the second of the series titled The Marrow Thieves. In this story, the young Native American named French is captured, and his group learns that the government has come up with a diabolical new plan to harvest only the marrow from the very young to combat the effects of a disastrous plague. As they struggle to get on with their daily lives, they depend even more heavily on their “found family” as a means of holding onto their culture. The main themes of this novel are the needs of the individual versus the needs of the collective, the definition of a family, the justification of one's actions, the effects of training, and the importance of hope.
