Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them: The Original Screenplay Overview

This story, written and published in the form of a screenplay, is centered around Newt Scamander, an animal-loving wizard familiar to readers of the “Harry Potter” series of stories. As Newt searches 1920’s New York City for the beasts that have accidentally escaped from his magical suitcase, he encounters both friendly and unfriendly wizards, some friendly non-wizards, and powerful forces of dark magic. In addition to presenting a clear thematic perspective on the value of protecting the vulnerable (primarily the beasts lost in a human world, but those who are vulnerable in other ways), the narrative also explores themes relating to interaction with “the other” and the relationship between being different and being lonely.
