Book of Life OverviewDeborah Harkness's novel, The Book of Life, is the continuing story of Diana Bishop and Matthew Clairmont, a witch and vampire who are breaking a major rule by being married. They are attracting a lot of attention because Diana is pregnant with Matthew's biological children (twins). Over the course of the novel, they cope with the law that is keeping them apart, a disease that sends some members of Matthew's family into uncontrollable rages, and the complexities of friends and families that are vampires, witches, and daemons. Through a mysterious book and scientific research, they discover that witches, vampires, daemons, and humans are all biologically related.
