In Chapter 2, Bartle remembers how Mrs. Murphy looked when he first met her. She was small and frail-looking. She was younger than his mother. Her teeth were slightly bronwed by smoke. Her hair was a faded blond worn in a bun, and she had on jeans and a blue button-up work shirt.
