Sidi Mubarak Bombay

1820?-1885?

African guide who accompanied John Hanning Speke, Richard Francis Burton, and Henry Morton Stanley on several expeditions throughout Africa. Bombay, a resilient man who survived disease and constant battle during his journeys through Africa, traveled with Speke and Burton to discover the source of the Nile River, and he assisted Stanley on his journey to find David Livingstone. Bombay was most faithful to Speke, who mentions him frequently as a sometimes temperamental yet charismatic companion and servant through his two great expeditions to find the source of the Nile.
