Canadian fur trader and explorer for the Hudson's Bay Company who led five trapping expeditions between 1824 and 1829 to the "Snake River Country" (the upper reaches of the Columbia River) with the aim of discouraging American trappers from coming into the area. The northwestern United States and Canada were Ogden's only home and "playing field." In fact, his impact upon the fur trade and explorations of the region were such that schools, parks, and even the third largest city in Utah bear Ogden's name today.
