American mathematician who has developed unique analytical methodologies. Uhlenbeck received a doctorate from Brandeis University and taught at several colleges before accepting a mathematics chair at the University of Texas. A partial differential equations expert, she mathematically describes shapes of abstract spaces. Mathematicians have applied her techniques to solve complex geometric problems. Uhlenbeck is interested in diverse mathematical theories, seeking interrelationships among approaches. She has served as vice president of the American Mathematical Society and has lectured internationally.
