fl. c. 1013

Viking explorer and half-sister of Leif Eriksson (c. 970-c. 1020). In 1013 Freydis, the illegitimate daughter of Erik the Red (c. 950-1004), took part in an expedition to Vínland, a region in eastern Canada discovered by her half-brother some years earlier. She established a trading partnership with two Norse brothers, Helgi and Finnbogi, but later turned against them and had them murdered along with their families before returning to Greenland.
