Prometheus's Rebellion in "Anthem"

Summary: The protagonist Prometheus in Ayn Rand's "Anthem" rebels against the totalitarian, collectivist government when the Council leaders reject his invention. Rand's novel is a statement against collective government in favor of freedom and individuality.
In the novel, Anthem by Ayn Rand, Prometheus, the protagonist narrator invents a light bulb and presents the gift to a group of scholars in hopes of impressing them and even becoming one of them. However, The Council of Scholars who fear changes or new ideas, rejects Prometheus' gift; this rejection allows him to realize that he does not belong to the society and motivates him to escape from the environment.

Initially Prometheus lives in a utopian homogenous world, but he soon aspires to be different when he realizes that this restrictiveness simply renders his existence into a mere entity. All the people accept their assigned jobs and only do what they are supposed to do. Also people don't get to choose their jobs. It is done by the Council of Vocations.
