Summary: Conflict will always be with humankind, but how we respond to it does not have to be violent. The nature of nonviolence is described and successful examples include Mohandas Gandhi in India, Chile in the 1980s, and apartheid South Africa.

We are living in a society that is progressing rapidly. The Stone Age humans wrestling wild animals with simple stone tools have become people wearing army uniforms attacking other nations with guns and bombs. This is development, in the technological sense. But has anything developed in the moral sense? Has our violent ways of achieving peace given way to a more moral way of nonviolence? Fortunately, nonviolence is becoming an issue nowadays. Nonviolence is a much better, moral and effective way of dealing with conflicts.

Many people still had their mind fixed that only violence can solve problems, or solve problems more effectively. Is violence really effective? Well, it is effective in killing lives and destroying properties. Violence has a huge dynamic: I make you suffer more than I suffer until you give in. Is this morally right to inflict suffer on others?
