Issues Currently Facing the United States Government

Summary: Discuss three problems facing the United States Government relating to social contract theory and a mixed economy. The three problems that are discussed are the inadequacy of our Social Security system, the amount citizens pay to taxes, and the inequality of our public educational system.

In the United States we live in what economist call, a "Mixed Economy." The basic definition is an economy in which both the government and people have control of their market/money. Because of this we expect certain things from the government (i.e. Medicare, Medicaid, Schools, Social Security, Protection ..ect.), in return the government expects things of us (i.e. taxes). This unwritten agreement forms a social contract in which both the government and the citizens are, by law, responsible for. There are many issues that derive from this, three very important ones are the inadequacy of our Social Security system, the amount citizens pay to taxes, and the inequality of our public educational system.
