Summary: In The Giver release is equivalent to our world's suicide when you apply for release. When it is a punishment it is equivalent to our world's capital punishment.
Our world is a reality and is balanced. With gain comes loss. With this imperfection comes the true meaning of life. Equivalence is needed in every situation. The gift of choosing for our selves was given to mankind separates him from the instinctual animal. With the ability of being flawed comes the most important triumph: to be able to choose good over evil, and love over hatred. Without this freedom to choose for ourselves the entire concept of life must surrender itself into nonexistence. Once again equivalence is needed, of all the good people in the world there are criminals.

Crime is everywhere in our world and The Giver's. Though it has become a part in our lives, we do not let it go unnoticed. In our world we have jail and capital punishment. In the world of Jonas they have the Ceremony of Release. In the book...
