Summary: The film, Far from Heaven's development of Racism is an accurate retake of how African American's were treated in this historical period of time. This behavior we witness throughout the film is a catalyst for an outbreak of civil rights. It indicates the community of Hartford like All American towns are in need of a civil rights movement. To create a nation of equality.
The theme of racism as developed in the film "Far From Heaven."

The film "Far From Heaven," is based on the most influential decade in American history. The 1950's, the decade that triggered the civil rights act. Although it is set in such a time, the town of Hartford, Connecticut does not seem to be effected by this revolutionary movement. We are shown acts of pure discriminatory and social unjust. Characters in the film show no remorse for their blatant prejudice behavior. Right through the film, racism can be noted through the costumes of the characters, dialogue in certain scenes, sound effects and camera angles.

The oxford dictionary defines Racism as: The belief that race accounts for differences in human character or ability and that a particular race is superior to others.

This meaning can be found in certain scenes that help clearly define racism.
