Summary: Taking the heart and pride out of a nation is as difficult and painful as taking the heart and pride out of a person. The west (European countries, United Sates, etc.) wanted their culture brought into Africa and wanted to change Africa into a "mini West", however, the west didn't get exactly what they wanted.

Africans were successful in achieving independence, although the pathways and attitudes toward that goal varied from group to group. By evaluating the Africans pathways to independence such as African unity, isolation, and violence, it can be clearly demonstrated that African ways were successful and effective in their movement to promote African independence. African unity by having all the African people, no matter what race, or religion, coming together to be a powerful force.
