Summary: Joseph Stalin helped bring Russia to a spot of major power, but so many people were killed, starved needlessly, or arrested that one might question which is more important: the economic status of a country, or the lives, or in this case, deaths, of its millions and millions of citizens.
Joseph Stalin was born in a small town called Gori, in Georgia on December 21, 1879. His recent death, on the date of March 5, 1953 in Moscow comes as a great relief to many Russians. Many people disliked Stalin's beliefs and ideas about the country, or Stalinism. Stalin wanted a country where he was the one leader, the only power figure. Before Stalinism was Leninism, which was, in short, a limited form of capitalism, coming to an abrupt halt with the death of Lenin. Even before Leninism was Marxism, which was based on the belief that if workers could only take over the country, life would be better for everyone. But, of course, before any of these theories was the era of the czars. The czars ruling Russia were strict on the people, and with each new czar, things got worse and worse.
