"I Want to Know Why": A Reality Check

Summary: A plot synopsis of Sherwin Anderson's short story "I Want to Know Why," about a naive young boy who comes to realize that his role model is not what the boy thought he would be.
Sherwood Anderson's "I Want to Know Why" shows how a young boy realizes that his role model is not who he thought would be. The boy had just turned fifteen and had a passion for thoroughbred horses. His small town of Beckersville was filled with men who owned farmland and raced horses, his friends were just as passionate as he was.

The boy and three of his friends from Kentucky went on a trip alone to see a horse race in Saratoga.. Before the race began, he wandered down to see Sunstreak, a beautiful thoroughbred, and knew for a fact he would win the race hands down that day.
