Summary: DNA testing is an increasingly popular way to determine the paternity of a child. The practice, however, raises many ethical issues and it should always be done with permission.
DNA (deoxyribonucleic acid) paternity testing can be used to great effect, but its consequences sometimes can be devastating when paternity testing takes place without permission. In this scenario, 15 year old Tom Stones discovers that rock star Dylan Dagg, is an "elderly vision" of himself. Since Tom has never met his real father, he asks his mother, Gem. She says that his father had "made a hash of things" and left before Tom was born. Tom decides to do some work and takes hairs of his own, his mother's, and his suspected father, Dylan Dagg while attending his rock concert. For $720 he has discovered that Dylan Dagg has a high probability of being his father. After the tests, Gem reports that, "Tom is going through a really strange phase at the moment."
