Neolithic art was an important element in the New Stone Age. The Neolithic time period began in 10,000 BC, when mankind first developed agriculture and began to settle in permanent villages. The New Stone Age came to an end around 5,000 BC, which was when the discovery of bronze came about. Neolithic art is found in vast remote areas in Eastern Europe, Siberia and Central Asia.

The standard of Neolithic art revolved mostly around pottery. Pottery has become an important aspect of our material culture. Most early civilizations that used pottery have relied on ceramic cooking pots, serving bowls, storage vessels or religious figurines. A women's role as a cook and manager of the home may have meant that women were in the best position to have formed, decorated, and fired the first pots.
