Summary: Teen suicide is an escalating crisis in Canada; the teen suicide rate there has increased fivefold in a 40-year period. Reversing this trend requires a better understanding of the motivation to commit suicide, as well as better methods to identify teenagers who are in danger of taking their own lives.
Canada is home to a growing population of 32 million people, however the percentage of teenagers who take their own lives is also on the rise. Teen suicide is an escalating crisis in Canada and the rate that teenagers commit such an act is becoming a problem. The suicide of a youth affects not only the victim, but also the family and friends. Over the course of 40 years, the Canadian teen suicide rate has increased five fold. To remedy this hurt and suffering in Canada, the trend needs to be reversed by better understanding what motivates teen suicide and eliminating the causes.
