The Heroism of Beowulf

Summary: The different battles and obstacles Beowulf must face in the Anglo-Saxon epic, "Beowulf." Beowulf uses his superhuman strength to battle the monster Grendel and his mother.
An epic poem is a narrative piece of literature that collaborates on the defeats of the usually traditional or legendary hero. The hero is often a man of blissful ancestry that is of great historical importance and gifted with a tremendous amount of courage and strength. It is the hero who will perform tasks willingly knowing that the consequences may be fatal. The epic poem Beowulf is a poem of splendor and of the celebration of a heroic life and death. It is full of sustained energy and is simply an utterance of power. It describes the most heroic and invincible man of the Anglo-Saxon times, Beowulf. (His great heroic triumphs are exemplified through the use of his superhuman physical strength and his courage to put his people before himself. His encounters with the ferocious beasts Grendel, Grendel's mother and the dragon are all times when Beowulf displays...
