In this essay comparisons will be made between two versions of a novel by Jeffery Deaver called The Bone Collector. The two versions in comparison are the 1999 film and extracts from the original novel.

The opening scene is the same in both the film and the novel. A man and a woman are waiting at the airport for their chauffer, who had left to pick them up an hour ago. However he never arrives so, they decide to take a taxi which is that of the Bone Collector. However here the film and the novel differ. In the novel it is told that, the taxi driver is wearing a stocking mask which is peculiar because of the fact that it is a hot, muggy, summer setting in the novel.
