A Heroine in Every Mother

Summary: Ma Joad is the Heroine in the book The Grapes Of Wrath by John Steinbeck. Throughout this novel Ma creates questions about gender roles. On the journey Pa begins to lose hope and Ma becomes the influential one. Although it is difficult Ma forces change on herself and family.
A hero is often thought to be someone that was born with exceptional capability, courage, and bravery. But is this how hero really comes along? A hero could be an ordinary person that happens to improve a situation. A hero is someone that realizes that people depend on you to make things happen and without you; the situation could not be solved. Two years ago I got a call from my cheerleading coach saying that the varsity team needed me to fill a girls spot that couldn't cheer anymore. I realized that this was a major responsibility and would be hard to do. It took me a while to perfect the routine, but in time I got it down.
