Summary: Many different forms of assisted, or artificial, reproductive techniques are available today. The following is a synopsis of these techniques along with a look at the ethics that surround them.
IVF

It stands for In-Vitro Fertilisation

In IVF, the sperm and egg are taken and brought together within a petri dish.

When the egg is fertilised, the zygote is incubated for a few days until it reaches the blastocyst stage.

After this, the blastocysts are inserted into the mother's womb.

The more blastocysts inserted, the higher chance of success (but if too many are introduced, more than one child may be born)

(However, now in the UK now not more than 3 blastocysts may be inserted into the mother's womb to prevent multiple pregnancy)

Monitoring the mother's menstrual cycles and hormone levels is essential to have a greater chance of IVF working. (The best places for IVF have a 1 in 4 success rate)

Additionally, in IVF, for every 4 successful IVF procedure, there will be a pair of twins.
