Democracy in the Middle East
Summary: A look at the U.S. policy to impede terrorism through the instilling of democracy in Middle Eastern countries that are unwilling to accept it. Particular focus is given to the arguments in an article about the complexities involved in pursuing this controversial policy.
What is democracy? Democracy is defined as a government ruled by the people. The United States' attempt to spread this form of government has proven to be an overwhelming and complex task. George Bush has made circulating democracy across the Middle East a top priority during his presidency and although many dispute his motives, he shows no signs of backing down. Still, many believe that Bush has made a good start toward achieving this goal and think it will only be a matter of time before Middle Eastern countries govern themselves in a manner similar to that of the United States.
In the article entitled: "Does he know where it's leading"", the instillation of democracy into other countries seems to be complicated and out of reach. It seems that the more Americans push these ideas onto countries, such as Iraq and Palestine, the more they feel the need...
