A Study of How Artists Take from Their Own Experiences

Summary: The expressionist painter Edvard Munch (1863-1944) and the surrealist painter Giorgio de Chirico (1888-1978) both applied their own experiences, feelings and desires in their artworks. A brief historical background on the artists and evaluation of examples of their artworks shows the degree to which each expressed his own emotions -- Munch's fears and anxieties, and de Chirico's perceived alienation from the world.
