Summary of the Film Apollo 13

Summary: This essay gives a detailed summary of the movie Apollo 13 and explains how it is related to government. The movie, Apollo 13, has several events that occur which include government involvement. The mission of Apollo 13 was a government funded event; however, the government wasn't willing to give all the money NASA needed for the mission because there was a chance that something could go wrong. The movie and actual events run parallel.
The movie Apollo 13 is based on a true story of a mission that was scheduled to put the second set of men on the moon. Jim Lovell (Tom Hanks) was scheduled to go with his crew he had been working with for some time, but then he was informed that one of his crew members, Ken Mattingly, was exposed to measles and was not allowed to go. So, Lovell was to continue on with the mission but with a new crew that he didn't really know. As they were leaving the atmosphere the astronauts experienced their first problem: part of the command module exploded limiting their oxygen to much less than what they needed to complete the mission. Mission Control, NASA, and Lovell's friend, Ken Mattingly, work frantically to return the astronauts home with their decreasing amount of air.
