1. "Live" By Richard Kostelanetz

This poem is a concrete poem because of its use of visual display to convoy the feel for the poem. Each line is composed of one phrase or word that gradually becomes shorter and shorter, thus creating a funnel shaped poem that gives a feel of upward expansion. This poem only uses imagery to give the feeling of life, as only a list of descriptive words is used. All the words either mean life, or are closely related to life, which combined to explicit the presence of life as a whole. The list of words along with the shape of the poem shows a feeling of growth that starts from the bottommost word; live, which is the seed that all the other words sprout from.
