The Expulsion of Jews from England, Spain and Germany
Summary: Throughout European history, Jewish people have been expelled from countries for religious and economic reasons. Anti-Semitism can be seen in these actions in England in the 13th century, Spain in the 15th century, and Germany during World War II.
The Jews were expelled from England in 1290. Some of those Jews managed to stay in England by disguising themselves and their religion. However, the majority of the Jewish populations of England, about 16,000, were forced out of England. That's a lot of people; imagine whole populations of Jewish citizens being forced out of their homes. The reason for their being forced out of England was partly because the Church was becoming more Anti-Semitic or more Anti-Jewish. Another reason was because of the Crusades. Many Crusaders were asking themselves why they were going out to the "Holy Land" to defeat the "infidels" when there were still Jews at home to deal with first. There was also a more important reason, Jews were no under the rigid control the Church exercised over everybody else.
