Summary: Both H.G. Bissinger's book Friday Night Lights and the movie version tell the story of the small blue-collar town of Odessa, Texas, whose high school football team is the life of the town. The story tells of the team's Cinderella run towards the state championship. Some major differences exist between the book and the movie, although the book is considered a classic and the movie is a successful adaptation of the book.

Friday Night Lights was written by H.G. Bissinger; it was copyrighted in 1990 and first produced by De capo press in 2000. 194 pages in its entirety, this novel packs a punch. The novel is set in Odessa, Texas, a small blue collar town in Texas where the football team is the only source of entertainment. This town is the type where everybody is on a first name basis, and if you mess up, the whole town will remind you of what you did. The town is an added pressure to the boy's quest to a state championship. The hot summers of Texas are described which come beating down on the kids as they practice.
